Are Socks Underwear?

One of the Biggest questions on my mind is “Are socks underwear“ and suprisingly it is very controversial. It’s a debate people have been having for a long time now so lets break it down and finally settle this pressing matter.

The Case for Socks as Underwear

At the entire core of the word “underwear” suggests something worn under your clothes, so that should imply the answer. They add an extra level of protection for your feet within your shoes. They are never really on display unless you have socks like these.

Their main goal is to keep your feet comfy and absorb sweat to prevent blisters. Without them, shoes can have a drastic impact on your feet, so in this way, it’s similar to underwear.

The Case Against

Lets advocate for the other side now, traditional underwear main goal is also to cover private areas on your body. However socks do not cover anything private unless you are a foot model!

The material is a large difference and indicator for which catagory a piece of clothing falls into. underwear is meant for more sensetive regions which means the materials are suited for that to prevent heat etc. But socks are made to absorb sweat and be comfy which means the material they both use is different. Socks can also come in very funky styles like these.

So, Are Socks Underwear?

The result? Not entirely. Socks share some same variables with underwear however to put them in the same catagory doesnt make any sense since culturally they dont fit with each other. They are more of an accessory for your feet.
