Tackling Social Anxiety in Sydney

At Inspire Threads, we’re excited to launch our latest movement, “Are You Inspired?”, aimed at addressing a growing concern—social anxiety—particularly within Sydney’s young adult population. This issue affects thousands, preventing many from engaging in even basic conversations due to the fear of judgment or rejection. But our aim is more than that; it’s to foster new connections between people who might never have considered each other friends before, making friends in the most unexpected places.

What is social anxiety? Social anxiety is more than just shyness or discomfort in social settings; it can deeply impact one’s ability to form meaningful connections. Our goal is to create awareness and foster a more inclusive society by addressing these anxieties head-on. We understand it’s a complex issue, but we're committed to tackling it one step at a time.

We, as an organization, have been directly impacted by social anxiety. Before we started our brand, Inspire Threads, Tom and I (Krishna) were very closed-off individuals. This was extremely limiting, not only for us but for the brand as well. We had to push out of our comfort zone to grow as people. This was extremely challenging for us, but when we started attending markets, we eased into the process of talking to strangers.

Some of the most amazing conversations came from talking to strangers. Everyone you see on the street is going about their day, carrying unique experiences they want to share but are scared to start. You have to be the one to start the conversation. It may be daunting in the beginning, but with some practice, you can almost eradicate your social anxiety.

Are you Inspired to Connect? To tackle this issue, we are going to be hosting events where you can come and chat with like-minded people and create new relationships with people you have never met before! We will be posting our events on social media. Check out our First Video interviewing people at the Glebe Markets about Social Anxiety.
